In its 2015 edition, the Maison & Objet show—the most important of its kind in the world—chose six Mexican designers as ambassadors in the Talents à la Carte section.

For two decades, the Maison & Objet fair has presented French and international trends in interior design. The exhibition has become a total success on this occasion, doubling, in fact, the presence of exhibitors to exceed three thousand visitors, besides increasing its exhibition area to 130,000 m2.

The Mexican Ambassador to France, Agustín García-López Loaeza, was in attendance in Pavilion 7, where the best emerging Mexican design studios were presented: Cooperativa Panorámica, Christian Vivanco, Liliana Ovalle, FOAM and Perla Valtierra, Paul Roco, and David Pompa.

This year Mexico has been crowned as one of the countries with greatest creativity and talent thanks to six young Mexicans with outstanding innovation and creativity.

Christian Vivanco impressed all the attendees with his proposal. Christian has been director of the Industrial Design Department of the Monterrey Center for Higher Education in Design and is co-founder of The Emotion Lab. He also designs—in collaboration with international brands—objects inspired by Mexican tradition and history.

Paul Roco is a Mexican workshop that designs and manufactures furniture, specializing in wood. Founded by Rodrigo Berrondo and Pablo Igartúa, Paul Roco’s creation combines functionality and esthetics in large-scale furniture, combining classic techniques with modern tools. The firm seeks to create unique, lasting designs, and maintains a steady production that continues the perfecting of its craft.

At the last Mexican Design Open, the workshop showed its new collection of products manufactured mainly with guanacaste wood. The exhibition consisted of three products: DANTE, GRETA, and SIMONE.

Liliana Ovalle. A London designer of Mexican origin, she graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2006. Liliana creates custom pieces for each of her customers and collaborates with international firms like Plusdesign Gallery, Nodus, and Anfora.

Studio Davidpompa. The interdisciplinary studio—headquartered in Mexico and Austria—restates Mexican craftwork to surprise the user with every piece. New techniques and ideas that reinvent the Mexican tradition can be expected in all designer David Pompa’s collections.

Cooperativa Panorámica. Founded by a group of designers seeking to work collaboratively to bring new interpretations to industrial design, these young talents see design as a means of meaningful, collaborative expression, which in turn opens a host of opportunities.

FOAM & Perla Valtierra. Designer and ceramic artist Perla Valtierra collaborates with FOAM—the duo formed by Omar Ramos and Alejandro Grande—to create an installation they proposed together for their participation in MAISON & OBJET.

Furniture design and its global market has undergone spectacular growth in recent years, and these six young people have taken advantage of the international opportunities they have had to establish themselves as the spearhead of Mexican interior design. In 2013, the furniture industry in Mexico employed 46,600 people, according to data from the National Statistics and Geography Institute (INEGI).
